Lots to be Thankful for – Nov. 21-23, 2016

Hello! As I type this I can’t believe how fast this year is going! It’s already Thanksgiving week! I’m looking forward to time with friends and family, and I hope you are too. Last week, the children brainstormed all the things they are thankful for. I know I am thankful for a great year of learning we are having!

Before we head out on Wednesday, here’s what we will be up to in class:

Language Arts

  • Reading our favorite Thanksgiving books and singing Thanksgiving songs
  • Doing some “Reader’s Theatre” where children act out poems and familiar stories
  • Reviewing letters and sounds (we will finish up our last three weeks of Fundations Unit 1 after Thanksgiving)

Math

  • Number representations and math games

Science

  • Seasonal Changes

Social Studies

  • Family traditions
  • The story of Thanksgiving (Now and then)

Some Reminders:

  1. Report Cards for term 1 go out on Tuesday, November 22. The grading system is number based and reflects what the child can do independently at this point in the year. It does not correlate with a traditional letter grading system.
  2. Library is back on Wednesdays! Please help your child to remember to return their book! If they have 2 books out, they will not be able to take out another book!
  3. Wednesday, November 23 is a half-day. Dismissal for all students is at 11:30 a.m.

Happy Thanksgiving! Gobble! Gobble!

Ms. Purdin
