“Be Well. Be Playful. Do Good.”

These were the words of wisdom from my favorite professor, Honey, who I saw this weekend at my 10th College reunion at GW in Washington, DC. I think these words have significance to what we are doing each day in Kindergarten. The children are learning to be cooperative, creative, independent, caring and invested students. No wonder they are tired at the end of the day!

As Henry Ford said, “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” This week I am continuing to focus on the children working together as a class, so we all can learn. We are getting better at coming to the rug and being ready with “meeting manners” and we have continued to model how to take care of our materials. Sharing is difficult! Make sure to practice at home!

This week we also will begin our phonics program, Fundations, in full. I will be introducing literacy centers and will be finishing up Unit 1 in our math by the beginning of next week. I am looking forward to our field trip, next Wednesday, Oct. 1. Let’s hope this great weather continues.

Remember… transitioning to FULL DAY Kindergarten is a big deal. Your child will be tired, as our days are busy and teacher-directed. Make sure your child has plenty of rest and finds quiet time each day. (Keep healthy!)
