Maybe it’s because I’m back in school myself this year, but I got that euphoric feeling of “I’m almost done with finals and it’s time to pack and go home for the holidays” feeling right around Thanksgiving. Throw in Black Friday shopping (yes, I do that!) and parent conferences last week, and well, let’s just say I plan to enjoy myself with our Kindergarten friends over the next two weeks by making holiday crafts to give to others, singing songs, and doing appropriate, thematic Kindergarten learning as we move into the holiday break.
Last week we did a study of Gingerbread Man books. We read four different Gingerbread tales and looked at the similarities and differences between the stories. After my note about reading, I was so happy to find a story 
everyone could enjoy. The children had fun repeating the chants and retelling each story. On Friday, a special visitor, my mother, stopped by to help us create our Gingerbread girls and boys. They came out awesome! Be sure to stop by and check them out before December break!
Today, in math, we practiced measuring with non-standard units. We used candy canes to measure ourselves! What fun! Working in pairs, children had to measure one another and then record their data on a chart. Tomorrow we will count and see which number had more.
In the month of December we will also be focusing on family traditions, holiday celebrations from around the world, finishing our first unit in Fundations, comparing and measuring, and understanding the difference between needs and wants.
